MARTHA KARUA JOINS JULIANI AND JAL ON SONG

Politician Martha Karua has joined singer Emmanuel Jal and Juliani on a song for Jal's We Want Peace campaign. Jal approached her through Facebook and they recorded the song at the Click Track Studios on Friday 4th February 2011. Juliani helped her pen down the lyrics and the video shoot should be done some time in April.

The We Want Peace campaign is Jal's effort to bring awareness for the need for peace in Sudan. Other notable personalities who have pledged their support to the noble cause include Prime Minister Raila Odinga, businessman, Jimnah Mbaru and Sudanese SPLM leader Yasir Arman.

GROOVE AWARDS 2011 NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN

The nominations for the 2011 Groove Awards with Skiza are now open till February 25th 2011. All you need to do is download the nomination form here fill it in and submit it at any of the 5 drop off points namely Mo Sound Office at Nelleon Place Rhapta road Westlands next to UNHCR, Nation Centre on Kimathi Street, Nairobi, Hope FM offices on Valley Road, Nairobi, Nam Lolwe Radio in Kisumu or Kassanga Music Shops in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru. You can also mail in your form to Groove Awards, P.O Box 38532 – 00623, Nairobi Kenya.

In addition to the form, you also need to drop off the following.
• A Soft Copy of a written Biography in English (less than 500 words) – in a CD
• 2 copies of recent colored photographs (passport and full size) - In a CD
• 4 Copies of the single/CD of the title commercially released from January 1st 2010 to January 1st 2011.
• 4 Copies of Video DVD of the title commercially released from January 1st 2010 to January 1st 2011.

The organizers have also released a timeline of the events leading up to the awards ceremony. There will be a nomination gala on the 28th of March 2011. The Groove Tour is back on the first four Sundays in April. The awards ceremony will take place on 30th April 2011 and voting will close the previous day at midnight.

Now in it's 6th year, the Groove Awards is organized by Mo Sound Entertainment. Safaricom's Skiza is back as the title sponsor as is Nation Media's NTV. Below are the seven divisions.

SK BLUE TIES THE KNOT

SK Blue and his bride Mercy
Veteran gospel artiste SK Blue (Samuel Kuria) married his fiancee Mercy at the Taiyana Gardens on 15th January 2011. The ceremony was officiated by Pastor Tony Kiama of River of God Church. Attending the ceremony was a host of gospel artists including Esther Wahome, Jimmy Gait, Kambua, Njugush, Mike Olome (Co-owner of Sakata Media), Rosie Ohon, DJ Soxxy, DJ Krowbar, Ringtone, Aliwah and Cal among others.

Another artist who recently quit the bachelor's club is Mike Olome, who also co-owns Sakata Media with SK Blue. He tied the knot in December 2010.

GROOVE PARTY 2010 RECAP

NAIROBI - Thousands of Kenyans ushered in the new year at the annual Groove Party on Friday 31st December 2010. The event organized by Mo Sound Entertainment started at 4pm till early in the morning and featured performances from various gospel artists as well as a spectacular fireworks display (view video below). There were two arenas with the indoor one at KICC Tsavo Ballroom reserved for the DJs and the outdoor Coca Cola village showcasing the live artists performances.

Leading the performers was Nigerian artiste Pastor Uche who gave an unforgettable show that featured the ever popular My God Is Good Ooh. Others were Tanzanian artists Rose Muhando and Christina Shusho and Ugandan Xodus.There was also Daddy Owen, Jimmie Gait, Emmy Kosgei, Ben Githae, Marion Shako, Kambua, Alice Kamande, Holy Dave, MC Alemba, Hey-Z, Wakabura Joseph, Astar, Anastacia Mukabwa, Kriss Eeh Baba and Marvelous Arunda among others.

ARTISTE SCANDAL: HOW SHOULD WE REACT?

James 3:1 "Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly." (NIV) That now seems to apply not only to pastors and preachers but also Gospel artists. At the end of 2010, a certain lady called into DNG's radio show on KISS 100 and claimed that a certain gospel artiste had raped her and is 2 months pregnant. The facts of this alleged story are yet to be substantiated especially as pertains to such a serious allegation as rape.

This revelation seemed to have caused a stir in the Kenyan Gospel fraternity. Does this mean that the said artistes' ministry was all an act? We certainly don't think so. In fact, we believe that he was as sincere as most gospel artistes and ministers of the gospel are. As Isaiah 40:8 reads "The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”(NIV) In this context, the said artiste may have "fallen" but the Word of the Lord that he has been preaching does not change.

Some people (Christians and others) may pass judgement on him for his failures (isn't Judgement the Lord's?) especially labelling his sin greater than others. Others may borrow a line from Donnie McClurkin's song "The saints are still the sinners who fall down and get up". This situation may as well have opened up an important avenue for young Kenyan Christians to re-examine themselves. Should we talk about it? Should we sweep the matter under the rug? WWJD?

Numerous artists, dancers and DJs are lined-up with lots of praise and worship from 9pm till dawn. This year's event promises to be transformational and is largely modelled around last year's highly successful event consisting of 3 domes. Dome One will host the family concert from an array of artists and dancers. Klub Xpressions will be in Dome Two with uninterupted DJ mixes all night. Kshs 200 will get you into both domes.

The third dome will be the Young Adult Village and is reserved for those over 25 years. It will feature more mature oriented music, live performances and transformational speak. Kshs 500 will get you into this third dome and you will also get access to the other two domes. The theme is Transformers Rom 12:2

NAIROBI - This year's Groove Party slated for the 31st of December at the KICC grounds is bound to be bigger and more exciting than the previous. With an early kick off time at 4pm and 2 arenas, there will be guaranteed non-stop action till 6am as we usher in the new year. The newest addition to the huge gospel line-up is South African based Nigerian artist Uche who is known for his hit song My God Is Good. The KICC Tsavo ballroom will be the Nokia Experiential Zone with a live party feed with SMS streaming on a big Nokia big screen. This is where DJs Mo, Sadic, Dee and Krowbar will be holding it down in a club-like atmosphere. The Coca-cola Village will be the located on the open grounds and is where artists will be performing.

Artists locked down include Tanzanian artists Rose Muhando and Christina Shusho and Ugandan Xodus. Others are Daddy Owen, M.O.G, Jimmie Gait, Emmy Kosgei, Ben Githae, Marion Shako, Kambua, Alice Kamande, Holy Dave, MC Alemba, Hey-Z, Wakabura Joseph, Astar, Anastacia Mukabwa, Kriss Eeh Baba, Marvelous Arunda among others. The artists will also be split into 2 arenas with simultaneous performances.

There will also be secure parking and the biggest fireworks display.
