And A Kenya That Is Seriously Plummeting!
I was watching the news this evening at seven O'clock and apparently you can get your own degree certificate for as little as Kenya Shillings five thousand (5,000).
Seriously, all that reading people do in campus, walking around with sullen faces, not talking to people as Savvy has just told us in
this post, it is all for nothing!! This is the gospel according to counterfeit artists in Nairobi City.
This was shown in one of those undercover investigative journalism pieces on NTV. Yesterday, the journalist, (it is a series of some sort) obtained a new counterfeit identity card and his cameraman obtained a new driving licence. There was absolutely no difference between his original ID and the fake one.
This evening they showed clips where he was able to obtain two academic certificates, one, a KCSE certificate and secondly, a law degree certificate from the University of Nairobi, in two hours nonetheless!! I can just imagine these people getting jobs based on fake impeccable credentials and you, there with your genuine one with some not so great grades, and you, will have to tarmac for years on end.
Funny enough the man who was caught on camera with the certificates, was so handsome and clean, looked really polished in his casual wear, and was protesting having his face being shown on TV. I wondered why he was doing it, heck when a search was done, police found a whole host of certificates, including Certificates of Good Conduct issued by the Kenya Police!! Meaning employers may have or are employing employed a lot of criminals because those certificates are basically used for job searches.
The kind of counterfeit that is being in Nairobi is so high-tech so one can't say it is poverty that led them to it. I believe the kind of machinery involved is so expensive, though I would love to know what they say when they are bringing it into the country.
For all you students reading this blog, be aware that as you lose sleep, get stressed, skip meals so that you can read, have your aging mother sell half an acre of land for school fees, someone somewhere sees you and laughs because they know that for as little as 5,000 bob they will get a degree certificate with better qualifications than yours!
In other news, Nairobi has become a fortress, the number of heavily armed men patrolling the streets is astounding. Hillary Clinton will be gracing the AGOA conference tomorrow so that is why. Various roads will be closed, so expect a lot of inconveniences tomorrow. Although I need to ask, given the number of security men present ,why is there rampant crime in Nairobi? Where did all these security forces come from all of a sudden? Is security only necessary when dignitaries come?
Raila Odinga, was on the news for all the wrong reasons today, he told off Ranneberger (the American Ambassador) for always coming down on us with his governance speeches. He said 'We in Africa don't need lectures on political governance....' he said 'we need more lectures on how we can trade amongst ourselves.....' he went on to give some excuses like we have just come from 'political repression'. Hundred years from now, we will still be blaming colonialists for our mistakes. Raila spoke a few minutes after Ranneberger had made his speech emphasising that 'economic development and democratic institutions are inextricably linked....' then he spoke of anti-corruption issues. The delegates were quite shocked and it was quite evident on their faces on the news clip.
Raila Odinga was agin on the news for entering Harambee House where Rift Valley MPs had gathered to beg Kibaki to compensate everyone who has settled in the Mau forest. Raila was shown entering Harambee House then leaving three minutes later, then when the MPs left, he came back again! Is that how an 'equal partner' acts? Anyway, he is entitled to fight his battles.
Lastly, countrywide power rationing is set to begin on Thursday the 6th of August. Kenyans are going to pay more given that we are now relying on emergency power generators. KPLC and Kiraitu are now praying for Elnino to come. I am not averse to rain as you all know, so I will join them in that prayer. I told you my rural area is semi-arid we depend on irrigation-fed agriculture and when Elnino happened last time people really enjoyed the free water and the abundant food. So Elnino is more than welcome. But seriously, with water and power rations, we are really retrogressing as a country, those economic growth margins being projected (even the fake ones) may not happen this year.....and to think you guys still believe in vision 2030!
