Ahead of the Kenya social protection conference 2023, which officially kicks off tomorrow, labour and social protection Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore has noted that the elderly population continues to grapple with a lack of income security, inadequate health services, lack of employment and a deteriorating living environment, further explaining why the government is seeking to push for 100 per cent National Hospital Insurance Fund coverage for senior citizens within three years. Currently, the state spends more than Ksh. 26 billion annually on social protection programs.
