Chapa Dimba Tournament to Bring The Heat to Thika With Thrilling Matches

Another weekend, another chance for a talented crop of youth get to showcase their skills on a platform that will elevate them to greater heights.

Indeed, that’s what the Chapa Dimba na Safaricom regional finals offers. Eight teams from every region that battle it out for a spot to partake in the national finals.

Defending Champion in the boys’ category, Euronuts from Kiambu and Barcelona Ladies from Laikipia are the champions of the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Central region finals.

Barcelona Ladies clinched the top spot in the girls’ category after they thrashed defending champions Limuru Starlets two goals to one (2-1) in an entertaining contest held at Thika Stadium.

Jane Njeri scored a brace seeing the back of the net at 7th and 75th minutes to give her team the victory. She was crowned the top scorer with a total of six (6) goals in two matches. Ngonyo Florence scored a consolation goal for Limuru Starlets just before full time ending the march at 2-1 in full time.

“I am very delighted for what we have achieved as a team. Scoring six goals couldn’t have been possible without team work. We will keep up our training routines as we prepare for the national finals. This is a very important moment for us,” stated Jane Njeri, Top scorer from Barcelona Ladies.

In the boy's finals, Euronuts successfully defended their title against Lufa Graduates scoring two goals to one in regulation time. Lual Mengistu gave the Kiambu based side an early lead in the 6th minute, setting pace for ‘nuts’. George Ndungu netted the second goal at 35th minute to seal the win for the Euronuts. Lorere Daniel brought Lufa Graduates back into the game at 65th minutes but it was too little too late for the Laikipia’s side who conceded a 2:1 defeat.

“We’ve had a very tough opponent today but we are happy to have triumphed. We will head to a camp for our trainings ahead of and hope it will bear fruits. The girls are dedicated and we plan to bring the national trophy to Central,” conveyed Emman Wafula, Coach Barcelona Ladies.

The other tourney was for the Coast regional finals where Mombasa’s teams, Shimanzi Youth (boys) and Changamwe Ladies (girls) emerged victorious after felling their opponents in nail-biting duels.

The crowd’s favourite Shimanzi Youth triumphed after putting up a skillful match against Maweni United from Malindi scoring two goals to one within the regulation time.

The Most Valuable Player in the tournament, Cedrick Asmani netted the first goal for Shimanzi Youth giving the home team an early lead at the 35th minute. Safari Juma scored the second goal at 45th minute to seal the win for Shimanzi Youth. Okwaro Dennis scored the consolation goal for Maweni United at 74th minute.

“We are very happy to have won the title this round. We lost it last season, but today is our happy day. The boys have been training so hard focusing on the top spot. We are not stopping at this because our eyes are set in the national finals. We will continue our trainings as we prepare for the national finals,” Shimanzi Youth coach stated after the match.

Changamwe Ladies clinched the top spot in the girls’ category after beating Malindi’s Solwogidi one goal to nil, thanks to Issa Hadwa last-minute header.

“It was a challenge to play on the tuft under floodlights because it was our first time ever to play under such conditions. Our opponents were tough as well but we managed to get a goal. Our win today is a great motivation to the team and we are determined to excel in the national finals,” Joyce Hamisi, the team's top scorer stated.

Winners in both the boys and girls category will receive a cash price of KES 200,000 each and an opportunity to represent the Central Region in the national finals. The runners-up will also receive KES 100,000 each among other individualized prizes.

Already, Mombasa’s Shimanzi youth and Changamwe ladies, Kajiado’s Al Ahly and Kitale Queens from Rift Valley, Bishop Njenga Girls and Lugari Blue Saints from Western, Manyatta Boys and Ndhiwa Queens from Nyanza as well as Super Solico and St Mary’s Ndovea from Eastern have booked their tickets for the national finals where Ksh 1,000,000 is at stake.

This year, an all star team will be selected to attend a training camp in Spain during which they will play against local youth sides.
