Health services in Nairobi have been paralysed after nurses and laboratory technologists joined clinicians and doctors in the ongoing strike. The industrial action, involving all cadres of healthcare workers, is over what they describe as persistent salary delays. The strike has forced cash-strapped hospital administrators to rely on locum medics in a bid to keep services running, with some saying they are now forced to choose between purchasing drugs and other medical supplies or paying doctors. Nairobi County Government has termed the strike illegal and directed healthcare workers to resume duty within 12 hours or face disciplinary action.
