Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has challenged Kenyans to rethink the meaning of democracy, arguing that the country's democratic ideals have steadily been eroded and instead replaced by political tokenism. Speaking during the launch of his new book, Illusions of Democracy, Kiaraitu warned that the struggle that delivered multi-party democracy and the 2010 Constitution risks being undermined by an increasingly transactional political culture.
