President William Ruto has assented to legislation increasing the allocation to county governments by 425.6 million shillings, in the 2026/2027 financial year. The move is expected to channel more resources to healthcare, agriculture, climate resilience, drought response, water and sanitation.
The President assented to the County Governments Additional Allocations Bill, 2026, at the Eldoret State Lodge. The funds comprise allocations from the National Government's share of revenue, statutory entitlements, as well as loans and grants from development partners. He also signed into law the County Assembly Services (Amendment) Bill, 2023, which introduces clearer procedures for the removal of County Assembly Service Board members and County Assembly Clerks, while protecting the rights and benefits of staff on secondment.
