As the world prepares to mark Global Handwashing Day on October 15th, Kibera has registered reduced numbers in diarrhoea cases amid improved sanitation efforts led by a local Non-Governmental Organisation, which has stepped in to sustain essential wash services following the exit of USAID-funded programmes. Health records show that 527 diarrhoea cases were recorded between January and June this year, compared to 123 additional cases from June to the end of September, pointing to progress in the fight against waterborne diseases.
