24 Kenyans are among over a thousand suspects who have been arrested in connection with the theft of over 24 billion shillings in online fraud. According to a report by Interpol, the Kenyan suspects allegedly stole 1.1 billion shillings after altering banking system’s security protocol. In the 2024 Africa Cyber Threat Assessment report prepared in conjunction with Afripol Ransomware, Business Email Compromise (BEC), digital extortion and online scams were identified as some of the notorious ways used to steal from 35,000 victims worldwide.
