Over 50% of health facilities contracted by the Social Health Authority have not received their payment for claims submitted in the last quarter of 2024. A survey conducted in the last week of December 2024 by the Rural & Urban Private Hospitals Association of Kenya, revealed significant delays and inconsistencies in disbursement of funds to hospitals by the Authority. The association has also reported that 96% of health facilities are in great financial distress struggling to meet operational costs including paying workers, suppliers and other liabilities.
