Mid-level private medical colleges want the mandate of relevant regulatory boards reviewed, a move they say will significantly reduce their operational costs. The Principal of the Commonwealth College of Medical and Related Studies in Kisumu County Olivia Akoth, notes that there are many regulatory medical bodies performing similar roles, adding that a review would bring a much-needed financial relief to the colleges. Akoth at the same time appealed to the Higher Education Loans Board to expand their loan facilities to accommodate students in mid-level private colleges. Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service was also challenged to consider placing students in mid-level private colleges for enhanced sustainability of the institutions.
