Chief Justice Martha Koome has hailed the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as a statesman, whose faith in the rule of law shaped Kenya’s democratic journey. CJ Koome noted that Raila's push for a new constitutional order and the expansion of democratic space in the 1990s, inspired generations to pursue change through the courts, not conflict. While leading a judiciary and judicial service commission delegation to condole with Mama Ida Odinga, following the death of former prime minister Raila Odinga, Koome remembered him as a courageous freedom fighter and a steadfast believer in justice and democracy, recalling how she first represented him during his detention in the 1980s, saying there is much to learn from his legacy.
