We have a pope, Pope Leo the 14th becomes the 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Prior to entering the conclave, he was addressed as Cardinal Robert Prevost, an American. White smoke accompanied by the tolling of bells signalled the election of a new leader of the Catholic church a few minutes past 7pm on Thursday. The announcement coming less than 24 hours after an initial vote was taken on Wednesday evening when the college of cardinals secluded themselves in what is known as the conclave. The signal that Pope Francis' successor has been chosen was met with jubilation by the tens of thousands who gathered at St. Peter's Square and who turned their eyes to the central window of St. Peter's Bascilica, customarily adorned with red drapes for the big reveal.
