The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly comparing the 2007/2008 post-election violence to a "Christmas party. Terming the remarks as deeply insensitive, NCIC condemned the former deputy President for the utterances which they say is harmful to national healing and reconciliation. The Commission is also investigating 28 other leaders for alleged violations under the National Cohesion and Integration Act, including hate speech and ethnic contempt. NCIC is urging Kenyans and especially youth and social media influencers, to use their freedom of expression responsibly to promote unity. The NCIC further called for renewed patriotism and rejection of ethnic polarization to foster peace ahead of the 2027 elections.
