The National Police Service has launched investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of a Catholic priest in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Father Allois Bett of St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Catholic parish is reported to have died after he was shot en route to church.
Confirming the incident, the County Police Commander Peter Mulingat said the priest was shot dead by unknown assailants, adding at least six suspects were apprehended in connection with the murder. A contingent of security officers has been deployed in the area to restore peace. The priest’s death is the third this week in the Kerio Valley. Area Governor Wesley Rotich has condemned the incident and urged the government to take swift action to arrest the perpetrators.
