Lecturers insist on 80% pay before ending the strike

The university academic staff union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) say lecturers must be paid 80 percent of their pending 2017–2021 salary increment arrears amounting to KSh 7.9 billion in a single instalment before calling off their strike. The ministries of education and treasury, however, say that it is not possible, insisting the government can only pay the balance in two equal installments of 50 percent each.
