    After the hue and cries by environmentalists over the felling of trees at the historic Uhuru gardens nestled along the busy Moi Avenue overlooking the iconic elephant tusks,

    the County Government of Mombasa has partnered with the Centre for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry to restore the ecological, social and economic value of the garden. Huge trees, most over a century old, bestride the 1.1-acre garden. The trees provide habitat to Eidolon Helvum, also known as the straw-colored fruit bats.
