While Oyuu rallied teachers to support the five-year Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that covers 2025–2029, Otieno dismissed the deal as an insult, maintaining that teachers deserved better from their employer, the government. The two were speaking at a funeral of Bondo KNUT Bondo branch chairman, Isaiah Oulo’s mother in Bondo. Oyuu called on teachers to appreciate what the unions have achieved so far. He warned the government against undermining free basic education, stressing that KNUT would strongly oppose any such move. Addressing mourners, lawyer Willis Otieno of the Piki Piki Ponky fame dismissed the salary deal as a slap in the face, adding that Kenyan teachers deserve significantly more given their role in shaping the nation
