Irungu Nyakera, the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) Nairobi Patron, has accused President William Ruto’s youth empowerment programme of misleading hundreds of young people. Speaking on Milele FM on August 13, 2025, Nyakera claimed many attendees left without the motorbikes they expected, alleging the event resembled a commercial scheme. He questioned the ownership of the bikes and said some youths reported paying Ksh300 daily to eventually own them, with electric bikes being disconnected if payments were missed.
