Machakos County has admitted to minimal delivery of healthcare services in the county, but denies claims of total paralysis of healthcare due to the ongoing nurses' strike. The county secretary, Muya Ndambuki, was responding to a story aired by Citizen TV on Tuesday showing empty hospital beds and patients abandoned in hospital wards after nurses downed their tools a week ago. While seemingly defending the neglect of patients, the county has termed the strike by nurses a nationwide problem that’s not unique to Machakos County, and has called for talks with the Kenya Union of Nurses and Midwives.
