SHA will not pay medical bills for Kenyans seeking treatment abroad

Kenyans seeking medical services abroad will have to pay out of their own pockets, even if they contribute to the Social Health Insurance Fund. Social Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Mercy Mwangangi, while appearing before a parliamentary committee, said the authority has yet to contract foreign hospitals as required by the new law, so no payments can be made abroad. Mwangangi, however, assured Kenyans that the process of prequalifying foreign hospitals will be completed by the end of next month, and the list will be made public.
