Kenya has recorded a sharp decline in the breeding of new seed varieties. This is according to a new survey by the African Seed Access Index-TASAI report conducted on maize, beans, and cowpeas and sorghum seed crops. TASAI Researcher Michael Waithaka says research into new seed varieties is needed given the changing climatic conditions. The report has also flagged the need for an increase in private-sector dominance in the seed industry.
