A study conducted by the regional education learning initiative shows that only 43% of adolescents aged between 13 and 17 years can read. Out of those 15% cannot read English text. The study also found that only 5% of those sampled have any problem solving skills. The study conducted across 20 counties paints a worrying trend of low literacy and competency skills among adolescents. Education stakeholders have asked the government to build the capacity of teachers to help learners develop and nurture core competencies and life skills under CBC.
