A crisis is looming over rerouting of teachers who were affected by the delocalization policy in the North Rift region.
Many teachers born in West Pokot County who have been working in the neighboring counties of Trans-nzoia, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasingishu have been allegedly denied the chance to go back to their home County despite after the Government scrapped off the delocalization policy.
The policy that was initiated by the Teachers Service Commission in 2018 was done away with in November, 2022 after parliament passed a motion by Lurambi MP Titus Khamala.
About 6,000 teachers were affected in the delocalization policy, which saw several tutors transferred away from their preferred schools.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) officials in West Pokot County have protested accusing the Teachers Service Commission [TSC] for being an impediment for local teachers to return home.
They said TSC has refused to effect teacher’s transfers despite the Government having scrapped the delocalization policy.
