At least 400 people have died after floods and landslides hit the Democratic Republic of Congo’s South Kivu province last week. The heavy rainfall caused rivers to overflow and resulted in mudslides that swept through the villages of Bushushu and Nyamukubi in south Kivu’s Kalehe territory. In several villages close to the shore of Lake Kivu, people have been digging through the mud with their hands in a desperate search for missing relatives.
