Farmers from Trans Nzoia county have called on the government to cap maize prices at an average of 6,000 shillings for a 90-kilogram bag, in order to cushion them from losses. While thanking the government for the fertilizer subsidy program which they said slightly lowered the cost of production, the farmers decried the high cost of fuel, which they said pushed production costs up to an average of 40,000 shillings per acre. This comes at the backdrop of a commitment by the government to lower the prices of unga in a robust plan to revitalize agriculture and ensure food security.
