Kenya announces bid to host 2029 or 2031 world athletics championships

Kenya has officially declared its intention to bid for the World Athletics Championships in either 2029 or 2031. The announcement was made by National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) First Vice President Barnaba Korir on Monday, September 15, 2025, during the ongoing World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. If successful, this will mark the first time the global athletics showpiece is staged on African soil.
