Unfulfilled climate mitigation promises

Unmet financial commitments by the rich nations remain the bone of contention of any climate talks and a recent survey report by Oxfam illustrates this. Four countries in the East African region, that is Kenya, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia identified the annual funds needed to combat the effects of climate change for the period 2021 to 2030. These were termed as the national determined contributions that were to enable them implement their climate goals under the Paris agreement. This figure was put at 53.3 billion dollars. 62 billion for Kenya, 316 billion for Ethiopia, 55.5 billion for Somalia and 100 billion for South Sudan in total over the 9 years. This money was to be paid by the rich nations to the four in East Africa.
