Chief Justice Martha Koome stated that the judiciary is facing challenges that stand as a threat to its independence. During her opening speech read by Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu at the annual judge’s colloquium on Wednesday, Koome cited the Salaries and Remuneration Commission and the Controller of Budget as having encroached on the judiciary and the judicial service commission's terrain. And as Hassan Mugambi reports, Koome has it that underfunding still bedevils the vital arm of the government.
