Defiant Austrian nuns return to abandoned convent despite church opposition

Three elderly nuns in Austria have defied their diocese and returned to their former convent in Salzburg, abandoning the nursing home where they had been living. Sisters Regina, 86, Rita, 81, and Bernadette, 88, went back to Schloss Goldenstein on September 4, the convent and girls’ school where they spent most of their lives. The move has sparked displeasure from the local church, which insists the building is unsuitable for them due to their age and health conditions.
