Maggot Therapy: How live maggots are used to treat chronic wounds

Maggot therapy was a common form of treatment in early civilization, until modern medicine and specifically antibiotics was developed in the 20th century. But with bacteria developing resistance to the antibiotics, healthcare practitioners are now reverting to maggot therapy as an alternative to treat wounds, especially chronic ones. The Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) is now producing maggots which are used by specialists at the Kenyatta National Hospital and other facilities across the country in debridement therapy.
