Simon Richoh, aka MC Richoh, is famous without being famous, literally. The bodaboda operator who lives in Githurai 45 is the person behind the widely used and popular street voice that markets Airtel products, especially SIM cards. In 2017, Richoh was one of the agents who were selling SIM cards to make a living. Leveraging his creative abilities, he went to the studio and recorded the popular "Karibia karibia customer upate line ya Airtel free of charge, na tunakuzawadi 100 MBs of data. Karibu customer." The idea was to use the voice to help him sell more cards. Little did he know the voice would become a countrywide sensation and be used literally by every Airtel agent. Richoh spoke exclusively to Citizen Digital on being famous without being famous, the struggles, why he has never benefited from the voice over and what Airtel has told him about it.
