A section of leaders have downplayed the debate on Mt Kenya succession politics on grounds that it will derail the government’s development agenda. Led by Laikipia senator John Kinyua, the leaders have also assured Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that they are fully behind him. Gatanga MP Edward Muriu who together with Murang’a senator Joe Nyutu triggered the debate, their endorsement of Kiaru legislator Ndindi Nyoro as a kingpin is their own democratic view and not meant to undermine the deputy president, and that the President is not the initiator of the move.
