The inaugural international schools chess championships came to a close on Sunday at the Brookside School in Nairobi with more than 100 players qualifying from 60 schools represented. In the under 14 category, Kenyan international Cyprian Mbaabu of Crawford International School emerged top on tie-break on one hundred percent with six out of six tying on points with 2022 African under 8 champion Winnie Kaburo of Brookside Preparatory School. In the under 18 category, Paul Olando of Junior Moi Educational Centre who is the reigning under 14 champion won on tie-break having tied on 5.5 points with little-known Hesham Zemam of Kitengela International School.
