Akiongea baada ya kuwaongoza wakenya katika shughuli ya kitaifa ya upanzi wa miti katika msitu wa Kiambicho, Kaunti ya Murang'a, Rais akizifariji familia zilizopoteza wapendwa wao kutokana na mafuriko, alisema kuwa njia pekee ya kukabiliana na athari za mabadiliko ya tabianchi kama vile mafuriko na ukame, ni kupanda miti akiwahimiza wakenya kuunga mkono mpango huo. Na kama anavyotuarifu Timothy Kipnusu, Rais Ruto wakati uo huo alisema serikali inaendelea kuhamisha watu walionyemelea maeneo yaliyo karibu na mito.
