Opposition leader Raila Odinga has underscored the need to safeguard human rights in efforts to counter terrorism and violent extremism in Africa. Speaking during the official opening of the Pan African Human Rights & Social Justice Conference in Nairobi, Raila also pledged to prioritise the war against terrorism should he succeed in clinching the seat of the African Union Chairman. The conference brings together governments, international organizations, and civil society groups aiming at an approach to counter-terrorism in Africa grounded on human rights to produce long-lasting change.
