Doctors Without Borders has handed over Karuri Medically Assisted Therapy clinic, a facility for rehabilitating drug addicts to the Kiambu county government and Kenya Prisons services. Since its inception, over 1000 people have benefitted from the holistic program with 556 currently receiving treatment at the clinic. According to Dr Nicole Maina, the facility's services are offered within the precincts of Karuri Level 4 Hospital in Banana ward, hence the clinic is closer to patients’ homes to enhance treatment adherence. The clinic has also made plans to ensure that Patients unable to access the daily treatment get their services in the comfort of their homes. Kiambu County ranks amongst the top counties in Kenya with the highest number of drug addicts.
