An age-old adage acknowledges that necessity is the mother of invention. An adage that resonated with university students from a local university who have designed a solar-powered tuktuk in response to climate change concerns. In addition to the eco-friendly form of transport the students also designed a face recognition system that collects biometric data that guards against identity theft and limits unauthorized access. Our reporter John Kahiro gives us details of the inventions that have raised eyebrows amid calls for innovative solutions to address the challenge of unemployment as well as protect the environment while embracing technology.
