Government says 46,000 public servants to retire in 5 years

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura says more than 46,000 civil servants will be retiring in the next 5 years, with a total of 7,662 civil servants retiring this financial year, leaving space for employment opportunities for the youth. According to him, 43,976 officers are currently aged over 55 years and are expected to retire between this year and the year 2029, with 39,441 Kenyans serving the government on contractual terms, with their contracts expiring on different dates depending on the period of their engagement.
