Acting Inspector General of Police, Gilbert Masengeli, has been sentenced to six months in prison for contempt of court. This is after he snubbed court summons seven times. High Court judge, Lawrence Mugambi, today ordered Masengeli to submit himself to the commissioner general of prisons to serve the prison sentence. Justice Mugambi ruled that in the event that Masengeli fails to surrender himself to prison, the Interior Cabinet Secretary must take steps to ensure he is committed to prison to serve his sentence.Justice Mugambi, however, said Masengeli may avoid serving the sentence if he appears in court within the next seven days. Masengeli was required to appear in court to explain the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Jamil Longton Hashim, his brother Aslam Longton, and activist Bob Michemi Njagi who were abducted on August 19 in the heat of anti-government protests in Kitengela.
