Turkey has been trying to act as a mediator in the ongoing row between Somalia and Ethiopia. The escalating tensions in the Horn of Africa are as a result of a maritime deal that also affects Egypt. Turkey has been a long-time partner of Somalia but has also been investing in the country for more than a decade. A new naval deal signed this year deepened the ties between the two countries.
