A new national wildlife census conducted between June 2024 and August 2025 by the Kenya Wildlife Service has shown a sharp increase in elephant population in the country from 36,280 in 2021 to 41,952 in 2025. According to the study, this is attributed to major progress in anti-poaching and habitat protection. However, the report showed an emerging threat to endangered species amid calls for urgent interventions to protect Kenya’s natural heritage.
