250 suspected Mungiki members have been arrested today and 16 vehicles impounded following a crackdown to thwart a planned event in Nyeri town. Nyeri Central Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Mwangi says the suspects were arrested after being found with paraphernalia identifiable with activities of the outlawed group, including tobacco, gang flags, and other items. The DCC says that the suspects, who are being held at a central police station in Nyeri, traveled from Nyeri, moringa, Kiambu, Baringo, Kirinyaga, and Laikipia counties. they are set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday to face charges of having links with an outlawed group.
