Kisii County has been labeled as one of the least accommodating regions for persons living with disabilities, often denying them access to buildings and essential services.

While speaking in Kisii town during a wheelchair distribution event where 450 wheelchairs were handed over to beneficiaries, Walkabout Foundation Director Carol Mureithi criticized the neglect of laws requiring buildings to be disability-friendly. She noted that this has resulted in wheelchair users being excluded from accessing retail outlets and other facilities. Mureithi also decried the challenges faced by PWDs in acquiring disability assessment certificates and the lack of adequate training for children with disabilities to help them become self-reliant.
