'This is about women and the control of women’s bodies' - BBC Africa
Despite outcry from activists and survivors, The Gambia’s parliament advanced a bill to decriminalise female genital mutilation on 18 March.
The move has reignited a contentious debate surrounding religious and cultural practices and bodily autonomy.
If the bill is passed, the country could become the first to reverse a ban on FGM.
