Airbnb owners will now be required to record and temporarily withhold identification documents of their clients. This comes as the government moves to stem incidences of insecurity following a spate of killings in such establishments. In the new directives by the Private Security Regulatory Authority, private security firms have been ordered to adhere to the law which among others requires identification documents to be surrendered at the point of entry into accommodation, lodging, and hospitality establishments and returned on exit. This comes as the Kisumu county government has issued a 21-day notice for all Airbnb establishments in the county to register with them to continue with operations.
