The Central Organization Of Trade Unions (COTU) has dismissed claims by housing principal secretary Charles Hinga that the union was involved in drafting new regulations for the affordable housing programme. The regulations — which controversially allow the housing levy to fund markets and other social infrastructure — have drawn sharp opposition. Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli insists that the umbrella union was not properly involved in crafting the new rules. Cotu is warning president william ruto against allowing the change of the housing levy into a pool for unrelated projects.
