The Auditor General has raised a red flag over some ghost public schools which have continued to receive capitation from the Ministry of Education despite being non-existent. Speaking before the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee, the Office of the Auditor General raised concerns about massive irregularities in the expenditure of the Ministry of Education's budget. The office, which conducted a special audit on some 400 schools, also found a shortfall of Sh117B in the funding of public schools in the country. Secondary school heads have asked the government to release capitation arrears for the first and second terms as schools near closure.
