A standoff between the Law Society of Kenya Busia chapter and the chief magistrate is threatening to paralyze court operations. Busia advocates have withdrawn legal services, demanding the immediate transfer of Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti for allegedly raising security concerns. Civil society groups, however, oppose the push by the LSK, terming the boycott as a diversionary tactic by the lawyers to protest a decision by the Busia Court Users Committee ordering one of the law firms to vacate a government residential house next to the magistrate's official residence. The advocates accuse the magistrate of undermining their work and have petitioned Chief Justice Martha Koome to intervene.
