Calm returns to Mwingi after deadly clashes, highway reopens

Calm is slowly returning to Mwingi Town after days of tension and violence triggered by the killing of eight people. Business activity remains subdued, with many traders yet to fully reopen their shops, but there are signs of recovery. The Mwingi–Garissa Highway has now been reopened, and public transport services are gradually resuming. This comes as security presence in the area remains heightened, even as leaders from both sides met in an emergency session in a bid to restore peace. The clashes, which have persisted since March, have so far claimed at least 13 lives. BN Kirui reports.
